This assessment aims to familiarize students with a prescribed drug, its nutritional interactions and appropriate reference sources for pharmacological information as they will be required to give a detailed explanation of the pharmacodynamics of the drug and the nutrients. Students are expected to compare and contrast the mode of action of the drug with the nutrients (see table above) and review research on the evidence for the efficacy of each nutrient as well as the drug itself. This allows students to deepen their confidence reading and appraising research on both nutrients and drugs.
A large part of the assessment will be focused on interactions between the drug and the nutrients. Students are asked to cite studies carried out on concomitant use of the drug with either/both nutrients and comment on researched interactions.
