Dogs Don’t Bite When a Growl Will Do is a book that is very interesting and captivating to read. The book has short chapters of about to 2 to 4 pages, and it narrates the lessons that an individual can learn from dogs. It is fun to have this book in the house because it guarantees a reader multiple smiles when reading. The book contains a series of life’s many mini-meditations. It has been a tradition that humans teach dogs, but this book gives a scenario where dogs in turn teach humans. The authors of the book, Weinstein and Barber blend the observations of canine behavior with those of the early wisdom. Plato is recorded saying, “I do not live to play, but I play in order that I may live and return with greater zest to the labors of life.” From the above quote, the next chapter shows how the author’s dog comes to his desk, rubs his arm with her nose. He finally rises up from his seat and takes the dog for a walk. When he comes back from a walk he feels refreshed and happy, better to work.

The book is composed of short chapters, and the book itself is short. Each of the chapter contains an important lesson that is like a meditation. The format of the book gives the writer a reading convenience because it can be read in intervals; it can be read between classes, in the morning every day and the bus stops. The famous meditation has the title “Dogs are Happy with a Simple Life.” Gilda agrees that dogs are the most interesting creatures to stay with, and they play role model to many creatures in life. On the contest of the nature of the dogs, Weinstein explains a spiritual principle that gives the meaning of contentment not considering the outer conditions. He continues to say that a dog needs only three common things, which include food and water, companionship and a place of rest. Human beings are more complicated in all their activities; humanity has created technology and the technology has become a major worry. Computers break down; they are expensive to repair and eventually become obsolete, but human need to learn simplicity from the dog.

Steinbeck explains in the book the nature of the dog that is quite contrary to the nature of human beings. Dogs are very easy to forgive. When they look at the human beings, they normally think that human beings are nuts. In the book, Weinstein stated clearly that there was a scenario when dogs were fighting for food. The human beings intervened into the fight, and they all ran away from the human and their fight died away after some minutes and started playing. Weinstein compared the dogs’ reaction to his reaction and found out that there existed significant reaction. There is a time when he had a rancor against his colleague for a number of years without forgiving him. He learned from the dog, which forgives its colleague in a matter of minutes. It is better to forgive and spread peace to every person in the world as recommended by the Zen master. The Zen master clearly states that it is good for a human being to “find peace and then share it with every person.” It is hard for an individual to share the peace with every person, but one has to ensure that his life is bringing happiness to every person in the world who is near either known or unknown.

It is true that the book cannot be missed in the house because of its funny and warm stories. The format of the book is very extraordinary and easy to follow. All the content written in the book is full of wisdom that enables an individual to learn on how to react to separate scenarios in life. There is another important part of the book that is very interesting the photographs used in the book. The pictures used deserve a great appreciation from the authors because of the way they are arranged. They act as the major pulling point to the book. Each section of the book has an introduction of a photo that shows gorgeous dog whereby in each photo every dog has a different pose. In the book, there is a photo with three puppies with a little boy on the step and one dog in the photo is seen petting another one. The other dog is also observed looking at the photographer with a very enticing expression. It is evident that the photographers also deserve an acknowledgement because of the quality of the photos. It is true that the book could not have looked good without the photographs of the dog and dogs are very difficult to take a dog’s photograph. When one tries to take the dogs photo there are possibilities of the dog running away from the photographers and one needs to be very patient to the dog and take time before taking quality photographs like those in the book. The book is good to everyone, both to the people who have dogs and those who do not have. It is to the notice of everyone that it is important to have a dog and if there is, no dog in one’s hone then there might be something wrong with the individual.

The book has 67 lessons in brief. The lessons learned from the book are much more than the ones that as an individual cannot teach a dog. The dog does not require 67 lessons in order to attain its roles in the household but as an individual, there is a need to learn the 67 lessons in order to have a happy life. It is easy for one to learn the 67 lessons without taking a lot of time but by only observing the characteristics of a dog. It is hard for people to believe that a small book like this one can have very many lessons, but it is true and all the people who have read it can testify. The lessons of the books are arranged in different chapters of the book. The book’s author knew how to arrange the lessons in a critical way to invoke the thinkers to open up their minds.

In conclusion, to be able to understand the plot of the book and learn on the lessons one must look at the book from the perspective of a critical thinker. Through a proper analysis of the events in the book, there are possibilities of even learning even more lessons. A number of lessons learned depend on the way one reads the book.
