Discussion 1: Adding Your Voice to the Field of Education Professionals
The Learning Resources for this module are rich with the voices of practicing teachers discussing the field of education and learners in the 21st-Century. They explain why they stay in teaching, what motivates them to teach, and how important they feel their job as a teaching professional is for their students. Think about your own thoughts and perspective on these topics. What did you hear that was similar? What was different? What resonated with you as you read about and listened to their stories? What would you say if asked to add your voice to the field?
For this Discussion, you will analyze your view of teacher professionalism in order to add your own voice to the field. You will also examine professionalism in relation to the propositions, dispositions, and proficiencies expected of 21st-Century teachers.
Refer to the Discussion Board Rubric in the MSED Documents area under Course Home to familiarize yourself with the evaluative criteria for Discussion Board Assignments.

Discussion 2: Critiquing Teacher Professionalism and Practices
I have come to understand from my experience and the work of Paulo Freire that what you love you won’t let fail! I teach because, just as these two teachers became the wind beneath my wings many years ago, I am continually inspired to guide my students. As we also “fly to the east and fly to the west,” I want each one of them to know I love them best. (Nieto, 2014, p. 111)
In this second week of Module 2, you have more time to view and think about different perspectives on teacher professionalism and whether your current practices exemplify those views. Some views will resonate deeply with your core beliefs about teaching, and others may not. As you review and reread the Learning Resources this week, keep in mind how the NBPTS Core Propositions, RWRCOEL’s Professional Dispositions, and Technology Proficiencies, fit into these various perspectives as well as the degree to which your teaching practices exemplify these three professional expectations.
For this Discussion, you will continue to analyze the relationship between professionalism and teacher expectations. You will also critique the professionalism and teaching practices of a 21st-Century teacher.
