Here is the intro: The United States continues to have a high infant mortality rate in comparison to other developed countries in the world, with 6 out of 1000 live births ending in mortality (Hamilton, Martin, & Osterman, 2015). This leaves many low-income families in the difficult place of trying to raise funds in order to cremate and/or bury their deceased infant without access to typical funeral assistance methods such as life insurance and savings. Organizations such as Skyler’s Gift Foundation were developed with this perplexity in mind, and assist these families in order to meet the cost. By the year 2020, the goal is that 100% of families dealing with the devastating loss of preemies will be able to pay for the funeral and/or cremation cost.
