Heroism

Today’s contemporary day heroism has differences and similarities compared to the Anglo-Saxon hero. Both the two heroes have diverse ethics they have faith in. Furthermore, they are driven to fight for dissimilar motives. The Anglo-Saxon hero fights in a different way than a modern-day hero. An instance of this contrast is Beowulf and Bono from the band “U2”. Both modern time heroes, like Anglo-Saxon and Bono heroes, like Beowulf, attempt to develop their societies, but do it in different manners and for diverse reasons. The physiognomies of a hero are commonly grounded around the perceptions of a culture or a society. In the epic Beowulf, the main character is considered a hero (Eyong, 2017). Beowulf, a pagan fighter and the leading personality of the epic, demonstrates specific individualities, for example, generosity, bravery, and loyalty, which show him as a hero. It is fascinating how modern-day heroes demonstrate the abundance of similar abilities as Beowulf.

This initial occurrence of Beowulf in the poem depicts him to be a worthy symbolic of that code. The hero is mighty, noble, valiant, strong, and a legend in his individual period and faithful to his leader Hygelac. And he is on the vigilant for wrongdoings to be rectified. The combatant hero gets renowned through strength. The poem Beowulf, although transcribed many years ago, still comprises the equivalent general themes of any great action escapade account in today’s society. The poem’s major themes center on human personality: the connection between leader and follower, the qualities of a good leader, and the human efforts between evil and good. In terms of Anglo-Saxon literature and culture, the term “hero” has numerous related notions, comprising such themes as courageousness and integrity, in and out of the fight, whereas modern-day perceptions of a hero do not certainly involve physical acts of strength to confirm one’s status.

Anglo-Saxon heroes have merely a small number of things in similarity with contemporary day champions. Among the similarities they have is that they both desire to develop the society that they originated from. Anglo-Saxon and Beowulf heroes battle their fights with their fistfuls (Tracy, 2019). In contrast, the contemporary hero battle with their minds. In 1992 Bono became involved in a campaign planned by Greenpeace against radioactive contamination. Bono, as a result, has created and organized a lot of foundations that aid and save individuals all over the universe.

The additional difference these two categories of heroes have is the reason why they battle their fights. The Anglo-Saxon heroic cypher says that Anglo Saxon supermen are looking for fortune. Beowulf makes numerous references in the poem of in the way he looks for affluence. Modern era heroes are complete of the desires of Anglo Saxon time. All of Bono’s establishments are non-profit, and the income they manage to get goes right away to several charities. The modern-day society is well-thought-out to be greedy for a celebrity to seek out money. On the other hand, it is flawlessly common and acknowledged for an Anglo-Saxon hero to search for wealth.

Today in contemporary society, people share principles which are the same to the ancient society which comprises from viewing a film to even a calamitous historical event. All the way through the poem, the significance of the action, the subject matter of evil versus good, and being reminisced as somebody powerful was very protuberant; though, these famous characteristics are likewise shown in modern society.
