Identify two (2) insights you gained about writing from research after reading chapter 1 in Lester and Lester (2012). Discuss the value of preparing a paper that analyzes and draws conclusions from the research of others, and how such an assignment could be beneficial to your professionally. In answering this question by Wednesday be certain to include one or more quotations; on two additional days during week 1 respond to three or more fellow students’ ideas without duplicating what has already been said.
After reading chapter 2 in Lester and Lester (2012):
- Discuss two strategies you will use to identify and refine your topic for the controversial issue research paper due in Week 7
- Brainstorm possible controversial issues you may want to research
Week 2.1 Discussion forum: Organizing Your Research
Identify two (2) strategies you will use to plan and organize your research. In addition to the ideas found in chapter 3 of Lester and Lester (2012), consider what you have done in the past that has (and hasn’t) worked well in preparing research-based assignments
Week 3.1 Discussion forum: Quantitative and Qualitative Research
In Brandman’s Virtual Library, locate a peer-reviewed journal article on your controversial issue that includes a quantitative or qualitative research study, and post a summary that includes reference for the article in APA format, a 150 – 200 summary of the study, whether the research was quantitative or qualitative, and what value the study added to your research project. Hint: in addition to the key words for your topic add quantitative or qualitative research to your library search.
TEAM DISCUSSION BOARD
For this Discussion forum Board, you will discuss your articles in smaller groups.
Individually: In Brandman’s Virtual Library, locate a peer-reviewed journal article on your controversial issue (week 7 paper topic) that includes a quantitative or qualitative research study, and post a summary that includes in-text references for the article in APA format, a 150 – 200 summary of the study, whether the research was quantitative or qualitative, and what value the study added to your research project. Post by THURSDAY, midnight.
Hint: in addition to the key-words for your topic add quantitative or qualitative research to your library search.
Team Discussion: Post and respond to your teammates on at least three different days and by Sunday midnight. Comment on and discuss the following:
- The differences and relationship between quantitative and qualitative research. What did you learn about this topic, from the quantitative aspects and the qualitative aspects of the article.
Week 4.1 Discussion: Plagiarism
What is intentional versus unintentional plagiarism? What tactics will you use to ensure your papers meet Brandman’s standards for academic honesty?
4.3 Evaluating Sources
Evaluating the validity and reliability of sources requires critical reading and analysis. Based on chapter 8 of Lester and Lester (2012) and the additional online resources suggested, identify two strategies you will use to critically read and evaluate journal articles, and discuss why this is important.
