Part 1: Dialogue

Me:The issue of genetic modification of organisms should not even be appearing in the scientists’ brains. It hurts to know the eventual trouble that human beings will be getting into for having created genetic imbalances in nature.

Ken:Either way, we are in an imbalance that must have been caused by another human action. Does it mean that we should wait until the imbalance is absorbed or we ought to take more actions?

Me:What that means is we are at an agreement that there was something done to create the problems we are in to necessitate genetic manipulation as an intervention. If we stopped the initial mess, we certainly won’t be creating another mess!

Ben:That’s true. Even Einstein found out that when a system is disturbed through defiance of the natural balance, there will be serious consequences on natural balance. First, we disobeyed nature and polluted our environment to such levels that nobody wants to be associated with the mess. Then all of a sudden, we are rushing to make crops produce more food than nature can enable them. Who knows what might be disturbed in the process?

Joy:It disgusts me to know that there are only a few people who are very serious making all these disturbances, yet almost the entire planet pays for their mess. Think of the poor kids in Africa and Asia dying of hunger just because the US refuses to obey environmental agreement such as the Kyoto agreement.

Ken:Give me a break! We should neither pay for the mistakes of others for their failure to plan ahead of difficult times.

Me:To make the long story short, we all have to experience the imbalance in one way or another at some point in time. At least there is hope if we stand against those who rape away the beauty of nature at wish.

Part 2: Brainstorming

I always though that the people who end up in police custody and ended up in jail terms should be rebuked and isolated well before they are held responsible by the long arm of the government. In my thinking, I thought that the society would have dealt a hard blow to crime and other social vices that are punishable by law. Creating a social system that shuns criminals would eventually shock them out to extinction from the human race. In such a case, the police and the courts would have little of such unnecessary cases that waste a considerable government’s expenditure. I therefore believed that there would be huge savings from reduced crime. Everybody should be discouraged from vices at the earliest instance in their lives. This suddenly changed after I learnt that prisoners are composed of people that the society has reprimanded and failed to appreciate as well as wrongly accused and innocent people.

I found out that my perception on crime and the best way to deal with it at the society was the actual facilitator of crime in the human society. There are uncountable people in jail today just because they were alienated and scolded by the society until they could not bear anymore. Lack of love and appreciation threw them to the dogs and they are no longer in touch with social values. A huge section of the prisoners today are also victims of harsh and unfair treatment by social apparatus of justice. Nobody cares to know their side of the story but to punish them mercilessly. This discovery led to my sudden change of stance and took a tough decision. While not condoning social vices, I have become an advocate of fair treatment of criminals. I am a supporter of human rights movements advocating for fairness in criminal justice systems and treatment of prisoners.
