Developing Self-efficacy

Often, success in life relies on one’s goals. Additionally, it depends on one’s capabilities to pursue the set goals. More importantly, it is essential for one to have a strong belief towards their capabilities. As such, this is best defined as self-efficacy and depends on one’s sense to believe that they can achieve a goal. Cognitive development is the theoretical and empirical work targeted at unraveling and comprehending a child’s development pertaining to memory, thinking, metacognition, perception of different aspects of life and social cognition (Kirk, 2013). Learning highly relies on cognitive development and applied self-efficacy.

Cognitive development may be difficult to achieve, but one is able to attain it with proper motivation in life. Self-efficacy is a key player when it comes to attaining cognitive development. The process involves improving certain characteristics in a child’s life such as thinking and having sharp memories. Sometimes a child finds it difficult to achieve such skills, and self-efficacy plays a key role when a child recognizes their capabilities. In turn, the child is motivated to overcome emerging challenges as they try to achieve proper cognitive development. For example, in my childhood, I always faced difficulty in remembering things I learnt in class. However, with time I realized that I could read well after attending school and instantly remember what I was taught in class. Thus, I had discovered my capabilities and utilized them for the betterment of my learning process.

Learning may prove to be a difficult process in a child’s life, just like I experienced in my childhood. Education is at times difficult to internalize and one needs to exercise self-efficacy to overcome such difficult moments. Studies reveal that students that apply self-efficacy in life put effort in their education and score high grades (Kirk, 2013).
