You (COTA) and I (OTR) have just been assigned a new patient, a 36-year-old woman named Mary SuIDen, who was in a car accident and has resulting bruises and a fractured left ankle and humerus, on which she wears a sling. She has been newly admitted to the rehab unit, and while in the acute hospital received most of her ADL care from the nursing staff due to injuries. She has a lot of pain, and frequently calls the nurses to ask for help. She makes sure to speak to the doctor every day about her progress, and is observed speaking frequently to other patients in a friendly manner.

1. Culture/Diversity: She came to the United States as a young woman from the Cayman Islands to get a position in a bank after completing her college education in Great Britain. She is single and working as a manager, and her married sister, husband, and children also live nearby. Her parents visit periodically from the Caymans, and she has frequent contact with friends from the Caymans, either electronically or through visits. She attends a Baptist church.
