Careers
We have talked about how a career in computer science may come with wide swings in employment opportunities. We have been on an upswing for a while now and that is projected to continue for quite a while yet. Economic downturns are probably the hardest on CS careers but some predict that the rise of artificial intelligence could also replace many CS jobs. We have also discussed how rapidly CS changes as a field – just think of all the tech changes you have seen in your life! For this question, explain to me what you as a student and later as an employee will do to make sure you are the employee who is not laid if in the tough times and even advances to better positions.
Ethics
Colleges tracking data about students.
Is it ethical for colleges to track some of the things described in the case, especially if they are non-academic things. If so, why? If not, why not?
What ethical issues are involved in this case? Please consult our Framework for Ethical Decision Making for an overview of modes of moral reasoning.
Who are the stakeholders in this situation?
Is the college’s decision consistent with its values? Is that important? It may be hard to know the values of the college in the article – you could substitute Bethany’s values for this question.
Security
I am travelling for work and stranded by a snowstorm, the delay means I will potentially miss some crucial deadlines. By getting online I can get some work done but the only wifi I have access to is my hotel’s or the coffee shop nearby. Both would be considered “public wifiâ€. What can I do to hopefully stay safe while using one of these connections?
Courses you would like to see offered in the next few years for the CS major.
