This is an introductory course to transportation engineering and planning. You are being exposed to a variety of topics, but transportation is such a broad and interesting industry and we are only able to cover a small portion of the possible topics.
For this project, you need to:
- Research a topic or current event in transportation that you find interesting/intriguing.
- Find at least 3 resources on the topic (for example a news article, an industry report (ASCE, ITE, etc.), a peer-reviewed article, etc.).
- Write a 2-page report that includes the following information:
- What is the main topic/current event? Are you researching a new technology? A new policy? How
- Why are you interested in it and how does it solve a problem and/or help accomplish the ultimate goal of transportation engineering and planning (improve quality of life while protecting the environment and balancing economic concerns).
- What are the pros and cons of this issue?
- What is the forecast for what will happen with your topic in the future?
You will be graded on quality of your writing (spelling, grammar, syntax, etc.); effectiveness of your writing (are you concise? did you make clear points and support them with evidence?); following of directions (did you find a minimum of 3 resources, did you answer the questions?); and the quality of your content (did you use quality resources? did you choose a relevant topic?).
This will be graded like a Type 2/3 assignment, on a 0-4 scale.
You can turn this assignment whenever you complete it (i.e. you can turn it in early).
