Briefly summarize the main events of the novel. State the main/central idea implied by the author. Word the idea itself as a complete statement that can stand alone, that does not refer to any characters and that can be applied to situations in life. Discuss the personality of the main character, supporting your discussion with brief examples. State the main conflict of the novel, including its two specific opposing forces, and indicate whether the conflict is internal or external. Indicate which force gets the upper hand. You may also discuss any other conflicts developed in the novel. Label the point of view of the novel. If any minds are entered, state the name of each character whose mind is entered and quote an example for each. (You do not need to give examples for more than two characters.) Discuss how the point of view affects the novel. Do one of the following (a or b): a. Discuss the setting of the novel, including the time and place (geography) and any other features of setting that are important. Give specific details. From the following list, choose at least three different kinds of language devices to discuss: symbol, simile, metaphor, irony, allusion, and dialect. For each one chosen, give direction quotations from the story as examples. What is the tone of the novel? Discuss how one or more of the elements support the tone.
