2. Consider that places and objects from the past are the tangible reminders of our history and our
heritage, and many of these remains are endangered. The ethical issues surrounding the
protection of cultural resources are constantly being debated. Archaeologists, heritage
managers, and many politicians have adopted the ethic of conservation and laws designed to
ensure the protection of the nation’s cultural heritage. The issues involved in the use of the past
are often complex and strike at the core of a citizen’s personal values. Being a responsible
citizen means being informed about these issues and taking informed and thoughtful actions. In
this assignment, you will examine an ethical public dilemma from a variety of community
perspectives and examine your personal beliefs and feelings concerning the preservation of
cultural resources.
• Write two paragraphs that explain
1. Identify two stakeholders who hold opposing views and briefly reiterate their
positions.
2. Then examine your personal beliefs and indicate which side your support and why.
