Analyzing Amanda M. Koch Resume and Cover Letter

Selection Criteria

For this assignment, I selected Amanda Koch’s resume and cover letter for the position of pension administrator position. Of all cover letters and resumes, the ones drafted by Amanda Koch attracted me the most. In terms of presentation, Amanda’s cover letter and resume stood out as they were well-formatted, making it easy to scheme through. The cover letter especially has short and easy-to-read paragraphs that make it easy for the reader to identify the applicant’s most significant credentials and qualifications. Similarly, Amanda’s resume is brief yet comprehensive. With just one look at Amanda’s resume, the recruiter can see all the important details about her educational qualifications and experience required to help them decide whether or not to hire her.

Overall Impression of the Documents

Undoubtedly, Amanda’s cover letter is directed toward a specific job. In the first paragraph, Amanda makes it known that she is applying for the position of pension administrator at Wake Financial Group Inc. She proceeds to describe the organization as one with a well-established administration that is dedicated to serving its clients in the best way possible. Without a doubt, Amanda uses positive language while writing the cover letter. Amanda comes off as a professional based on her choice of words. She uses respectful language and addresses the letter recipient as a professional. She uses the title of Miss to refer to Michelle Stokan, who is being addressed in the letter. Amanda is also honest as depicted in how she mentions that although it is not listed in her resume, she has experience working as a General Contractor’s assistant. She is also genuine as she mentions that she would like to put her skills to good use to contribute positively to the community. Amanda’s documents are reader-based. One can tell that she put a lot of thought into writing the resume and cover letter. Amanda knows the exact details in her resume and is keen to provide additional details on her cover letter that can aid her in getting the position. She knows she did not include the work that she took up during the past two summers in her resume. She is keen to let the reader know she has the working experience that is not included in her resume. The documents are reader-based, and it is easy to tell this because the writer is conscious and intentional about the information they put in their cover letter and resume. The documents are error-free. The writer was keen on word choice and grammar. The documents are also well punctuated and follow the basic standards of writing.

Column and Quadrant Test

The resume passes the column test. In drafting her resume, Amanda employs the two-column resume format. This is the more traditional format where all information is presented using two columns. In this case, Amanda’s resume is divided into two sections. In one column, she states the title and in the other column, she provides information concerning that specific title. The two-column format is beneficial to the reader as it improves reading flexibility and makes the resume look clean and well put together. The resume, however, does not comply with the quadrant test. Worth noting that Amanda’s cover letter does not comply with the quadrant format. She writes the resume using block style, where all details begin on the left and proceed towards the right side of the page.

Overall Impression

Overall, I was impressed with Amanda’s cover letter for the pension administrator position. The cover letter stood out from the rest because of its good punctuation, proper formatting, and content. The writer did a good job of explaining why she is the best candidate for the position. She gives a background about her education as well as work experience. She is also honest and lets the recruiter know that she is yet to graduate with a degree in Computer Information Systems from Tarleton State University. In my viewpoint, Amanda’s cover letter was unique and comprehensive and might get her selected for the position of pension administrator at Wake Financial Group.
