American society does not fully understand the true meaning of minority and continues to portray them as such. The stereotype of the minority is that they have different beliefs and the right to live their lives in a certain way that is not seen in the majority of the population. Rodriquez talks about how individuals are discriminated against because they are different than everyone else. He says that people who do not sound or look like everyone else are looked down upon in American society. This further proves his point when he states that people who do not look or sound like everyone else are often called “”pavement artists”” because they do not fit into the mainstream standard of beauty or sound. These artists understand how American society sees them and this understanding allows them to make a living off their artwork. “This notion that we are segmented populations
