Requirements
You will use leadership theories as frameworks for your Selected Topic paper, and address the three levels of the system—the microsystem, mesosystem, and macrosystem.
The following objectives for this assignment are:
- Identify and describe what experiences have shaped your leadership style, your philosophy towards leadership, and motivation behind your behavior. (2 pages)
- What are your leadership strengths; what are your weaknesses?
- How can you maximize your strengths? How can you minimize or remove your limitations?
- What are your blind spots—opinions, stereotypes, and knee-jerk reactions that are difficult to acknowledge?
- Identify and describe what combination of established leadership styles you would use—autocratic, democratic, laissez-faire, transformational, and transactional—when dealing with day-to-day operations at the three system levels. Provide examples and reference leadership theories as appropriate. (2 pages)
- Identify and describe what combination of established leadership styles you would use at the microsystem level.
- Identify and describe what combination of established leadership styles you would use at the mesosystem level.
- Identify and describe what combination of established leadership styles you would use at the macrosystem level.
- In your new role as a DNP leader, what combination of established leadership styles would you use when leading change within an organization: autocratic, democratic, laissez-faire, transformational, and transactional? Provide examples and reference leadership theories as appropriate. (2 pages)
- What would be your greatest strengths when leading change?
- What are your greatest barriers when leading change?
- How do you deal with group conflict?
- Identify and describe what leadership strategies would you use to reawaken the passion for practice. Provide examples and reference leadership theories as appropriate. (2 pages)
- What leadership strategies would you use to reawaken the passion for practice?
- How would you identify barriers in staff?
- As a DNP leader, what new skills and knowledge will you bring forth in reawakening the passion for practice?
- Conclusion
- Summarize the main points from the content of your paper.
Criteria for Format and Special Instructions
- The paper (excluding the title page and references page) should be 8 pages. Points will be lost for not meeting the length requirement. Estimated page length for each section of the paper is outlined in the description of the assignment section.
- Font and sizes acceptable: 12 point Times New Roman or 11 point
- Use of the following subheadings to organize the content of your paper:
- Your Leadership Style
- Leadership and Day-to-Day Operations
- Leading Change
- Reawakening the Passion for Practice
- Conclusion
- This assignment must be submitted to Turnitin, as required by the Turnitin policy. Check with the instructor for more information.
- The textbooks required for this course may not be used as a reference for this assignment.
- A minimum of 8 scholarly references must be used. Scholarly references need to be current, 5–8 years or less (anonymous authors or web pages are not acceptable).
- Title page, body of paper, and reference page must follow APA guidelines as found in the 6th edition of the manual. This includes the use of headings for each section or topic of the paper.
- Ideas and information that come from readings must be cited and referenced correctly.
- Rules of grammar, spelling, word usage, and punctuation are followed and consistent with formal written work as found in the 6th edition of the APA manual.
- This paper is worth 250 total points and will be graded on quality of topic, quality of paper information, use of citations, grammar, and sentence structure.
