There was a man named, Alfred Moore Waddell,who led a group of white supremacists into a newspaper office that consists ofnothing but African Americans working there. This newspaper office was called,Wilmington Record. The new legislature sanctioned the state’s first Jim Crow regulations regarding the separation of races in trainpassenger cars (Cecelski, 1998). This piece of history was new information forme, and I spent more time at home looking up more details about the storyevents shown in the museum. It revealed that North Carolina has so much historyto uncover for myself and my children. This event helps me to understand otherCivil Rights movements in North Carolina, which were also on display in thehistory museum (Cecelski, 1998). North Carolina played a great part in historyon the many freedoms that the African American’s get to experience in thesedays, that otherwise wouldn’t have been able to experience. In conclusion, this cultural event was agreat way to experience some world culture in the state which located next tomine because I reside in South Carolina, but the home state of my grandfather.The assignment was truly amazing, because I went with purpose, and gained a newperspective on the influence of the world’s cultures today. It is verysurprising to find so much of the world wrapped into one big melting pot. Youexperience the world around you outside of your textbook, living room, andcomputer. The people living next to you, and even in your very house makeup thedifferent cultural aspects of our community.
