2010 Valencia College Annexing the Philippines Descriptive Essay

For this paper you will write 2 to 4, double-spaced typed pages in 12-point font. You can use MLA or APA format for this paper. All papers must be submitted as a Microsoft Word document.

I will look over a copy of your paper before the due date if you would like feedback, however you will need to email me a draft no later than Wednesday, October 21, 2020 in order to receive feedback prior to the deadline.

Assignment:

Pick one of the following essay questions for this assignment. Remember – only pick one!

Describe the government’s policy toward Indians. How did this policy develop over the years, and what were the main factors that influenced its development?

What was the African American experience during the latter part of the nineteenth century? How did that experience vary depending on the region?

Discuss the Roosevelt Corollary and what impact it had on President Roosevelt’s foreign policy, especially as it pertained to Latin America.

Compare the arguments of those who favored annexing the Philippines with those who opposed it. Evaluate which position was stronger and why.

Which of the progressive presidents was the most progressive? Which was the least progressive? Explain.

Your essay should be in the following format:

Introduction/Thesis – What is the main point of your paper and what evidence do you have to support your point? You should have three main points to support your answer and you should give a preview to these main points in your introduction.

Main Point 1 – State your first point and provide examples from outside sources as support.

Main Point 2 – State your second point and provide examples from outside sources as support.

Main Point 3 – State your third point and provide examples from outside sources as support.

Conclusion – Restate your thesis/main point. Do not introduce new information in the conclusion. This is your opportunity to provide a wrap-up of everything you said in your paper.
