The reading strategies we are learning can apply to more than just texts. Using the rhetorically reading strategies, you can “read” cultural objects (an Instagram picture, websites , clothing).
For this 100+ word post, link to one cultural artifact from the list above and then analyze the choices the “author” is making in support of a message. You want 4 or so observations.
Example : https://www.nike.com/ (we are analyzing the “Winter’s Most Wanted” picture)
Example :The image includes women of different body sizes and ethnicities to argue that Nike clothing is for every body and everybody. It is also arguing that the brand is “tough” and “cool” by having the models not smile and pose with their collers up. Additionally, this toughness and the way the women are standing near each other with their arms on each other shoulders associates Nike with female empowerment. The line “Women’s Most Wanted” reminds viwers of a “Most Wanted” poster, again hitting the theme of toughness but also of desirability.
