Part 1:

The quote, “If then we would grapple intelligently with the greater problems of human development in society, we must sit and study and learn even when the mad impulse of aimless philanthropy is striving within, and we find it easier to labor blindly, rather than to wait intelligently,” by Du Boise was in regard to the problems facing the Negros and thus, he was trying to find the most suitable way to ensure that the Negros were successful through the fulfilment of their needs. In respect to the quote, Du Boise states that if the Negros had to struggle with intelligence in vain with none of their problems solved, then an alternative solution needs to be devised and implemented with respect to fostering human development in the society, especially if there is an easier way to get the problems solved rather than depend on intelligence that bores no fruits. We mostly rely on intelligence, especially prior knowledge, to get problems solved through the application of similar mechanisms. However, if the knowledge we have doesn’t work, we still need a solution to our problems, and this calls for a trial-and-error process. In this case, we get to solve the problem blindly, and if the strategy works, more problems need to be approached in the same manner.

Progress

The first day was hectic, with little knowledge of the subject matter, and I required a lot of reading and consultation. By day five, almost all the necessary information required for the weekly assessment had been exhausted, and I was conversant with the weekly material. I was ready for the assignment, and I hoped to get as many points as possible.

Frank is a 35 year old Caucasian male who presented to your office with concerns over some of his sexual interests and behaviors.  Ever since he can remember he has

been interested in women’s clothing.  At the age of 14 he started masturbating while wearing his sister’s dresses.  He has kept this a secret from his family and

friends.  In school he was well liked and had a few girlfriends.  It wasn’t until he went to college did he start wearing his girlfriend’s clothing in secret.  He

feels fortunate that he was never caught. He is married now and has 2 children.  He wears his wife’s dresses while masturbating in the privacy of his own home.  He

loves his wife but he is concerned that if she ever found out that she would leave him.  For this he feels bad and believes that he is sick.  He only participates in

this behavior once in a while like when his wife takes the children to visit their grandparents.  He has a good sex life with his wife and does not require the use of

female clothing.  He has a good job working as a paramedic and has lots of friends.  Frank is coming to you for help.  How would you work with him?  Does he require

treatment? What would you tell him about his sexual behavior?  What is it called?  Would you diagnose him with a disorder?  Why or why not?  Does he have a problem?
