Rhetorical Analysis
1) Find an ad that you would like to analyze (include the ad in your post! a youtube Link. ).
2) Read the Carroll article to help you, outline a rhetorical analysis of the ad. Explain what rhetorical appeals are being used (ethos, logos, pathos) and explain the rhetorical context (exigence, audience and possible restraints).
3) Explain whether you found the appeals effective given the context (i.e. why–or why not–would this persuade you?)
4) Comment on at least one other student’s analysis, discussing whether they were thorough and what “gaps” they might want to address, if needed.

This ad from Beats uses a lot of ethos to get the audience’s attention. In order to persuade the audience about how necessary and wonderful their products are, Beats invites famous athletes to get involved in the ad. While doing a wide range of different exercises, athletes wear power beats to help them focus more and become more productive. Although little pathos and logos are involved in the ad, the exigence of this ad is obvious. The ad is delivering a message that if people want to have the same achievement as these athletes, they need to not only work hard but also use power beats. That’s being said, the intended audiences for this ad are those who pursue a high life quality and treat sports as an indispensable part of their lives. Last, the restraints for this ad is the rhythm. From my perspective, the ad is made in a relatively fast rhythm so it gives the audience motivation to pay attention to the products these athletes are wearing.
3) Personally, this ad is persuasive in persuading people to purchase the power beats. Since these famous athletes have relatively high status compared to ordinary people, they can easily cause an effect on the audience’s perception of the products, regardless of the quality of the products themselves. As a big fan of Lebron James, I am therefore convinced by this ad and will purchase these power beats because my favorite athlete is using them.
