Final Project
For your Final Project, you are asked to select a policy issue for which statutes (legislative), regulations (executive), and/or court cases (judicial) exist. (This issue should be present in at least two of the three types of primary sources.) Then you are asked to utilize the legal research resources you learned about in the course to research the issue you selected. Your project should include a description of the resources you found to be useful in researching the issue; an explanation of how they helped you understand the issue; a summary of the current state of the issue; and an explanation of predictions about potential policy shifts and trends.
Your Final Project must be presented as a 12- to 14-page (not including references, title page, or abstract), double-spaced, APA-formatted project in the form of a paper that is submitted by Day 7 of Week 11. See Week 11 for specific instructions for submission.
In the Final Project, you must do the following:
- Describe the policy issue you selected. Explain whether it is a federal or state issue. You may also describe your interest in the issue.
- Identify at least three secondary sources you used to research the issue and explain why each was useful.
- Explain how you used secondary resources to identify primary resources related to the issue. Be sure to name the primary resources you identified.
- If your issue relates only to two branches of government, please complete two of the following three steps. If your issue relates to all three branches, you may do all of the steps.

- Identify two or three statutes you used to research the issue and explain how they relate to the issue. Outline and explain the statutes you identified.
- Briefly describe three regulations related to the issue. Outline and explain the regulations you identified. Identify relevant administrative agencies related to the issue.
- Identify relevant cases related to the issue. Write a case brief on at least one recent case related to the issue.
- Explain the current state of the issue based on your research of secondary and primary resources.
- Based on your research of the issue, explain future policy shifts and trends you think might occur and why.
- If asked to research the issue under budgetary constraints, explain the range of resources you would use and the research strategies you would use to ensure that your research is cost effective.
