Moral decision making;

Competitions are always of bringing together the very best in any field, which in most cases elicits different reactions among participants. Kevin a gifted NFL player always at his highest level, which earns him an enemy from within Art, takes upon himself to overlook ethics and instead makes a decision to ruin Kevin’s career in a morally destructive way. The reflection is a critical analysis of the events that unfolded and how they relate to everyday ethics. The reflection will also look at alternative ethical routes that could have been taken to avoid the resultant undesirable consequences.
Art has well calculated his moves in a way that will appear like a normal accident and no blame will be placed on his hand. When at the second quarter he falls over Kelvin with his helmet snapping at his neck, it is the hit that changes everything. Kelvin is changed for a lifetime as he is reduced to paralysis and can no longer shine as a player again. However, he would be rightful to sue in a court of law the bad publicity and fears of bankruptcy may ruin his life. Lack of morality is displayed through Art malicious and jealous behavior, which reduces Kelvin to a wheel chair in the end. Art fails to look at how his decisions will affect others and only looks at how he will personally benefit, which is a reflection of lack of moral principles. Art decision making could have been different if he looked at the consequences of his actions in both the short terms and the long term. Art is only concerned about the instant fame he gets from the book he writes about Kelvin and the press that follows him. Other than Kelvin losing out to ever becoming a player again, his team also loses a great deal the benefit of having a talented player in its camp. The family that Kelvin took care of education needs and the society as a whole loses a great deal of his moral and financial support. Looking at the high losses because of Art hit and the tragedy, it is a morally wrong decision.
After what Art did, a chance to talk to him would with an effort to help him become a better person who respects the rules of ethics other than holding on extreme feelings such as greediness. I would ask Art to come out clear and admit what he did was wrong as this would help in making him a better human being who is able to acknowledge mistakes. Every human being may sometimes be overcome by emotions and sometimes do unpleasant things. I would ask Art to review his inner self and tell if what he did would add value in his life and whether it would make him live a happy life’s would talk to him the benefits of moral behavior and its contribution to fair outcome. Although he may rake in millions from the tragedy, I would talk to him about the suffering that Kelvin and his loved ones will be subjected to because of disability. Although money derives satisfaction, it may not result to happiness especially when earned in such crude means.
Although Art acts as if he does not care, he feels terrible about his actions. Art may have intended to put out Kelvin with an injury for only a few games and not a lifetime. His refusal to apologies is driven by his guilt feelings about his actions. His actions of not looking at Kelvin when he lay motionless on the field and failure to visit him in hospital are an indication of guilt feelings.
Justice is an important part of moral decision making where consequences are involved. The actions of Art resulted to a tragedy in Kelvin life, which was dealt with through an unjust way from all parties involved. Yes, it is possible for Kelvin to gain justice, which will begin through his suing been backed by his club and the league as a whole. Although there is a promise to take care of his expenses, this appears uncertain and commitment should be indicated through a fair hearing for his tragedy. Social control should be put in place to help in preventing undesirable things from further happening in Kelvin’s life. Art should be tried for his actions, which seem rather open as indicated by the title of his book. Efforts to seek justice should not be seen as bad publicity for the game but should be treated as an open warning to future players of malicious practices and instill discipline on Art.
In conclusion, a Kelvin talent is what is wasted through the tragedy but his life remains intact as he can gain advantage in other healthy ways. There should be efforts by the league to support Kelvin in achieving justice, as they are the ones who hold fate of the direction that the case will take. Through analyzing the consequences, a morally inspired decision will be made which will result to justice to all parties involved. Kelvin and his loved ones can make good out of the tragedy by using it as a platform to rally for future justice and talk about it through writing and talk shows.
