Students will identify an issue related to team/small group development. Using 2-3 course concepts/theories, you will construct a ten-page paper. The work will contain at least three original propositions as well as a defense of those propositions as a means of explaining some relevant organizational communication phenomena. This paper should look like a long literature review. We will discuss further expectations in class.
Warning: Two common mistakes on this assignment are forgetting to study communication or forgetting to study small groups/teams in the proposal. An analysis of gender roles in the media is not a study of teams unless there is a focus on team roles or another team-related phenomenon. An analysis of people’s reasons for identifying with their workgroup is not a study of communication until it examines how communication is involved in creating identification.
