The literature review should demonstrate research from both journal and text based references. The review should illustrate progression from general introductory definitions and concepts to identification of key research questions and knowledge base. Students should demonstrate good understanding of the key issues in the chosen area. The review should be appropriately structured and formatted in a style relevant to the chosen discipline.

1. Identify a topic
A psychological or physiological area of interest related to children in sport. Ensure the topic is sufficiently narrow and not too broad.

2. Do a literature search
Find out what has been written about your topic, and identify key relevant articles & texts. Ensure you record the full reference information for APA referencing.

3. Read the literature
Record the author and the title and take notes. Your aim is to determine how the topic is approached and what is said about it. As you make notes, you might find it useful to ask yourself the following questions about each text.
• What sort of text is it?
• What is the methodology?
• What are the definitions used?
• What is the theoretical basis?
• What evidence is used to back up the thesis?
• What are the conclusions

4. Write short summaries
For each relevant text, try to write a one paragraph summary similar to an Abstract

5. Organize the summaries
Try to identify similarities and group the summaries accordingly.

6. Decide on the order of the paragraphs
Carefully choose the order of the paragraphs to reflect a logical order and sequence to your review.

7. Add paragraph hooks and short transition paragraphs to help the flow of ideas

8. Write the conclusion
Ensure in the conclusion you overview the paper, drawing precise conclusions from the review and make reference to your research question.

9. Write the introduction
The introduction should include a clear statement of the topic and its parameters. You should also indicate why the research area is important, interesting, or relevant in some way and the direction of the review.

10. Proofread and edit carefully
Ensure the review is thorough and accurate.
