Based off of Lorraine Hansberry’s “Raisin in the Sun”, write a 4 page (double spaced) essay off of ONE of these three topics. 1. There is a great deal of conflict among the family members in the play. Are their arguments caused more by simple differences of opinion or by failure to understand one another’s feelings or desires? refer as specifically as possible to the words and actions of the characters to back up your conclusions. 2. Beneatha’s two suitors function as foils to one another: the contrast between them highlights the characteristics of each. describe each one’s essential nature emphasizing the differences between them. Which one does Beneatha prefer, and why? 3. A Raisin in the Sun takes is title from Langston Hughes poem “Harlem”. Read the poem (Harlem), then write an essay in which you discuss how its theme applies to the members of the younger family.
