This assignment is to look at a common product and to research its origins, its development and its current state. You should consider this product’s special requirements and how its designers achieved this along with meeting sometimes conflicting needs.
You should use as the basis of your analysis, the Design Cycle.
As with any in depth examination of a mass produced consumer good, you need to consider history, consumer taste and prevailing society attitudes. You should also speculate on where this product may evolve into the future.
You should consider how this product is manufactured, distributed and retailed to the end user. An important of the Design Cycle is the end of use issue and how product designers integrate this aspect into their designs at the start. How would you do it differently to improve sustainable practice?

Some points to be considered :
You are required to produce work that is far more in depth, as befits an Engineer, than a superficial look that could be mostly general knowledge. Eg when a phone is no longer required, it is not enough to say that you put it in a Planet Ark bin. You need to tell me what are the next several steps in the recycling process and why. I want you to analyse, with respect to the design cycle, the specific product in a generic way as well as explore specific models. You need to cover the technology changes and other relevant matters such as societal changes, etc.
The report, in Tech Report format, should be approx 2,500 words of quality work (not including the appendix and reference list), properly referenced and not general knowledge waffle.
