Greatest American Screen Legends
The American Film Institute is an American Film company that undertook a survey for the purpose of enlighten. The survey was undertaken so that the population could learn something about the American legends that ever graced the American screens in the past. The American film body defines an actor as one whose screen began before or after the 1950s. The actors work was one the led to the success of the present day industry.
The survey comprised of a population of 1800 leaders that were acquired from the film industry. This population comprised of a sample of artists, historians, critics and cultural elites. These leaders were each allocated a list of 250 nominees of screen legends taken from the varied genders with regard to the American Film Institute historians (Weiss, 2010). The group came up with a list of 25 male and 25 female.
The sample chosen to come up with the 50 names from the 250 given did not take into consideration all of the players that go to watch movies. According to March and Simon (1958), the world is one complicated and improbable place that makes it hard for rational actors to come up with rational choices. This is with regard to ‘bounded rationality’. They go on to add that actors are limited in terms of acquiring, organizing and assessing details that is necessary to come up with relevant choices.
On the other hand, the opinion acquired by historians is relative and their choices are based on what happened in the past. The world has since advanced and the characteristics that make up a good movie are quite different. Their incorporation may however be beneficial as they are aware of the movie legends much better than the current movie goers. On the other hand, the use of critics is necessary as it is through their opinion that the best movie legend is acquired. The critics ought to however be from the movie industry. Lastly cultural dignitaries, mostly in North America are not know to be experts in watching movies and their opinion may not be valid. Cultural dignitaries are already influenced by the cultural aspect of life and the need to maintain the country’s cultural sense. However, with the well advanced movie scene and constantly changing population, culture is always affected hence calling for an independent mind.
In reference to North America, the common movie goers are the youth who have developed preference and hatred for certain actors. Their opinions are not predetermined as the cultural dignitaries are (Weiss, 2010). The youth keep track of all the movies immediately they are out and share it with other movie goers. It is through this that the sample is not comprised of people that are well aware of the movie actors and the trends that are constantly changing.
The Greatest American Screen Legends is comprised of popular actors that graced the movie screens and are watched by a wide range of people who love movies. The opinion on the best movie actors are based on their ability to keep the movie goers interested all through leaving them wanting more. These legends kept track with the trends in place which was in the 1950s hence the significance played by the historians, while the critics accorded the relevance based on the standard of most movies.
