1. Objectives for this assignment are as follows:

1. To compose a unified and cohesive six-paragraph [with one section] essay that persuades an audience.

3. Your assignment is to write a critique about the characters in the film Primary Colors.

Instructions: Follow carefully.

Your thesis will be to your support your opinion as to whether you like the characters in the film, dislike them, or have mixed feelings about them. But here is the trick: you must not use “I” in your thesis. Think like a movie reviewer. Just make a statement about the characters as a whole: are they positive examples of people in American presidential politics, negative examples, or a mix of positive and negative qualities and examples.

In the body of your essay, choose from the list of character qualities below. This is a list that came from our discussions of the film.

Positive Qualities:

Honest

Sincere

Moral

Unselfish

“Presidential” [In other words, has the ability to be a good president]

Realistic [In other words, realistic about what it takes to be president]

Negative Qualities:

Delusional [Meaning, not facing reality]

Your analysis:

If you think the characters are positive examples, choose three from the positive qualities list and then apply them to four characters. ONE QUALITY MUST APPLY TO TWO PEOPLE. The other two can apply to one character each.

If you think the characters are negative examples, choose three from the negative qualities list and then apply them to four characters. ONE QUALITY MUST APPLY TO TWO PEOPLE. The other two can apply to one character each.

Or

If you think the characters are positive and negative examples, choose some from the positive qualities list and some from the negative list, and then apply them to four characters. ONE QUALITY MUST APPLY TO TWO PEOPLE. The other two can apply to one character each.
