Understanding Communication
Brief for Assessment Item 3: Essay (1500 words) – 45%
Objectives: a, b, c, d, e
Due Date: Week 12
Description
In this subject we have investigated the role of communication in society, and different ways in which communication is understood and analysed.
You will write a 1500 word essay that demonstrates your understanding of communication theories by applying the theories we have studied to an analysis of a text you have chosen and
discussed for approval with your tutor.
As well as drawing on the traditions and theories explored in this subject, it is expected that further reading based on the weekly reading list and your own research will feed into your analysis.
Essays must be accompanied by a bibliography and use the Harvard reference system as outlined at: www.bell.uts.edu.au/referencing/harvard_system.
You will develop the focus of your essay in consultation with your tutor, and workshop drafts of your essay in class in weeks 8 and 9.
