Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Sports

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the way of simulating human intelligence processes by use of machines such as computer systems. Examples of AI applications include machine vision, speech recognition, expert systems, and Natural Language Processing (NLP). Generally, artificial intelligence functions through ingesting massive labeled training data, employing it for patterns and correlations, and using the patterns to predict future states (Fialho, Aline, and João 131). Sociotechnical systems incorporate requirements ranging from personal, software, community, and hardware aspects. These systems apply an understanding of the rights, roles, and social structures to inform system designs involving technology and communities of people (Galily 47). Examples of sociotechnical systems include blogs, emails, and social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook. The Discovery of artificial intelligence and sociotechnical systems has significantly impacted sports today. This essay discusses how artificial intelligence and sociotechnical system have impacted sports.

To begin with, the development of artificial intelligence and sociotechnical systems has helped predict player injury occurrences. Research reveals that injuries adversely affect performance in sports, where injuries of the main players cost teams a lot of money which is spent on treatment, thus leading to reduced revenue (Kakavas et al. 63). Injuries also make a difference between success and failure during sports. Thus, sports injuries’ prevention, management, and diagnosis are important in both amateur and professional sports. Artificial intelligence has helped sports teams and coaches predict future injuries through predicting numerous dynamic systems, such as political forecasting, weather, and projecting traffic fatalities. Consequently, this aids in formulating prevention and management strategies. The diagnostic and predictive capabilities facilitated by AI also make it possible for managers and coaches to maintain their player’s fitness, health, and safety. In essence, players’ mental and physical issues get diagnosed and treated early enough.

Secondly, the development of artificial intelligence and sociotechnical systems has led to improved Football Teaching and Training (FTT) through the integrated intelligent FTT system. Li et al. reveal that football players’ integrated intelligent FTT system helps manage players’ personal information and the teaching information of the coach in an informative and intelligent way (1). Usually, the data that is generated during the training and exercise process, including the score settlement, exercise time, and the number of exercises, are stored and then uploaded to the server where scientific analysis is performed, and results are used to provide training prescription based on player’s characteristics (Li et al. 1). The authors further add that intelligent FTT system assists in improving players’ enthusiasm in learning and training. On the same note, Lv, Xiangzhi, and Ang Jiang (1) urge that the application of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in future sports raining is advantageous in that it improves players’ enthusiasm for exercise.

Furthermore, the emergence of technologies such as machine learning and artificial intelligence have tremendously altered people’s interactions. Machines learn and showcase human traits such as behavior hence impacting sports in game-changing ways. For example, artificial intelligence has transformed coaching and training. In sports, AI has made it possible for analysts and coaches to point out players’ areas of improvement and player strengths and predict their progress over time (Nadikattu 5983). Additionally, coaches can use metrics to discover weaknesses and compare stats in executing plays. Coaches have been relying on data to boost player performance. AI referees are another emerging aspect of sports. They have been using big data to make split decisions in the field. They also use sports analytics to determine what the next big thing is. Meanwhile, the use of Video Assistant Technology (VAR) helps coaches make precise judgments about big decisions such as free kicks, red cards, and penalties.

Lastly, sports events’ support services such as broadcasting, betting industry, and spectator experience have benefitted largely from the development of artificial intelligence and sociotechnical systems (Hammes et al. 2). For instance, in betting, AI and sociotechnical systems help in the provision of real-time information which is vital for betting. AI is capable of providing minute information for every gameplay, thus, facilitating the betting procedure. Also, AI facilitates better predictions providing betters with the best experience. On the other hand, AI and sociotechnical systems have led to the introduction of new broadcasting technologies which intend to increase convey information to viewers automatically, quickly, and accurately.

Overall, (AI) and sociotechnical systems have significantly impacted sports today. The development of AI and sociotechnical systems assists in predicting players’ injuries, which helps in injury prevention and management. It has also led to improved FTT and impacted people’s interactions. Today, coaches and players can interact more, and through the help of AI, coaches can identify players’ areas of improvement and strengths and predict their progress over time. Furthermore, AI transforms the people treat and view player safety. AI provides diagnostic and predictive capabilities making it possible for managers and coaches to maintain their player’s fitness. VAR technology also assists referees in making precise judgments such as penalties, free kicks, and red cards. The development of AI and sociotechnical systems has also benefitted the sports events’ support services such as broadcasting.
