This is one of the biggest corporations in the United Arab Emirates. It is the second largest bank commanding a sizeable customer base. It offers various services and products to its customers. The bank came into being with merging of three banks namely; Khaleej bank, Emirates Commercial bank, and Federal Commercial bank.

The bank’s vision is to endeavor to satisfy its clients with provision of innovative products and services. Guided by its mission that the client always has another choice strives to present quality at all times.

The organization assumes the vertical structure of arrangement with four divisions where it has a manager answerable to the top management. The structure is mounted on the principles based on task orientation, structure that is vertical, specialization of high degree, performance appraisal and compensation conforming to traditional system, moderate skill workforce, central decision making process, control with wide scope, and formalization of high degree. In terms of the workforce, the system has a human resource section which is responsible for the employee’s welfare, training, selection, and recruitment. It keeps track of other departments’ employees for compliance with the company regulations in relation to work. Moreover, it ensures that the working environment is amble for best employees’ performance.

The difference between teams and groups

A group entails interaction between three or more people with a common goal and has influence over one another. Through proper communication these people can work jointly for one endeavor. The characteristics of a group have three components and are size, goal orientation, and influence.

On the other hand, a team encompasses group of individuals that can emerge into a team if it has a synchronized effort to attain a common goal. Teams are characteristically more interdependent on each other. They work together over a long interlude of time to realize a purpose.

Characteristics of an Effective team

The team that is effective has shared values such as commitment, support, integrity, commitment as well as a common task. Moreover, they have a common identity that bind the team members together, skills that complement one another, the skills get valued and utilized within the teams facets. Team members share a common goal, mission, and vision. Also, there is clear leadership, roles, as well as responsibilities supported by all members of the team. The teams other characteristic is the celebratory nature of the members when there is achievement.

My team and current characteristics

The team I can identify with is the support team. In the team, the current characteristics are unity-members are so united together for the common goal of discharging assigned duties harmoniously, commitment-members are so committed to attaining high standards in their work as expected in laid work procedures, integrity- members value honest in any endeavor, there is clear leadership, roles, as well as responsibilities supported by all members of the team. The team members celebrate nature of the members when there are achievements.

Formation of teams

According to Bruce Tuckman (1965), team formation undergoes through the four stages of development as in its model. The stages are forming, storming, norming, and performing.

Forming is a stage in which the team members have positive attitude, polite, and the leader has the greatest role to play in assembling members together as well as setting limits

Storming stage is where members of the team aggravate for more clear directions; it is the stage where members can part ways due to difference in opinions.

Norming stage is where people begin to understand their differences, appreciate one another, and take direction of their leader.

Performing stage is the stage in which all the team members get to work together for the betterment of the group. They work for attaining set results.

The characteristics of each Stage

a.Forming stage

It is a stage where the team members get to know one another, there is exhibition of honesty and politeness amongst the members. The members adhere to the authority as bestowed to the leader and act as directed with no objection

b. Storming stage

It is characterized by divergent of views from members. They get aggravated especially when the leader is not giving proper direction that normally does not agree with member’s expectations and that of the organization

c. Norming stage

The characteristic of the stage is appreciation of everybody’s points of view as well as skills. The members are in unity and acknowledge everybody’s role in the team.

d. Performing stage

It is a stage characterized by joint efforts for effective performance in the team. They is unity of purpose, every individual’s skills gets utilized properly, as well as all members’ opinions get considered. Clear communication, balanced goals, as well as personal relationship is clear.
