Abstract

This paper seeks to give an analysis on the importance of fine art. Art can occur in different forms such as art pieces, drama presentations, as well as through works of literature. In turn, students are impacted, in that they learn to appreciate art and their intellectual development improves. This means that a lot should be done to ensure that students are engaged in art activities. Art should be in schools, at home, as well as other places, where students frequent as its benefits are needed. Students are thus able to develop their awareness on culture, increase their self-esteem, and acquire skills needed for critical thinking (Cornett, 2003).

Analysis of the impact of fine art on the intellectual development of students

In elementary school, is when students first have the opportunity of knowing what fine arts entails, and this also occurs when they are at home. Most times, the fine art takes the form of acting in plays, among others. Students’ academic achievement, development as well as motivation are influenced by the fine arts according to research. This means that there is a connection between the mind and art (Cornett, 2003). Most students involved in fine art have benefited from being aspired, acquiring skills and knowledge, which in turn have led to motivation and personal fulfillment. Human beings are distinguished by their achievement and imagination, which is brought about by art.

Most students stop continuing with their schooling as they believe that the system of education does not benefit them. Studies have found out that students who undertake art courses are motivated to continue with their education. This is because through art, many experiences are created and in turn, develops the students in many ways. In order to understand the benefits of fine art, Lowenfield came up with a theory based on constructs, which are psychoanalytical. In order for children to develop mentally and in a healthy manner, they should be introduced to art early enough in life. Mental disturbances and self-confidence deterioration occurs when the creativity of students is prohibited. Art ensures that students become creative and this plays a great role in their lives. Even Albert Einstein believed that knowledge is not as essential as imagination. Through art, students become imaginative (Ables & Hrowitz, 2000).

Students are able to relate to different scenarios when they engage in reading works of literature. This in turn makes them develop skills for critical thinking, become aware about different cultures, and even reason well. The students acquire the knowledge of many authors, who are known for their great literature works. By engaging in drama, they acquire essential skills needed for reading (Ables & Hrowitz, 2000. When students act in plays, they are able to know how to relate with others, self-esteem is built and also they acquire memorization skills. The students become aware of people’s cultures and how they can relate to different people. By creating art pieces, students develop their reasoning as well as enhance the coordination of their hands and eyes. For example, students who create sculptures, improve their senses such as sight and touch. Thus, all the different types of art should be encouraged among students (Dahlman, 2007).

Conclusion

In conclusion, art is extremely beneficial and a lot should be done to ensure that students are engaged in it. Intellectual development in developed by the different forms of art. In turn, the student improves greatly in all sectors of their lives and thus become successful.
