Deviant Globalization in the Movie Syriana

Deviant globalization can be better explained as an economic phenomenon; in that it is that global economy’s portion that meets demand for services and goods that are considered repugnant or illegal in one place by using supplies from a single part of the globe that has less active law enforcement or different morals, deviant globalization in his context can be seen not only as an economic concept but also a legal and moral one. Mainly since, it progresses at the regulatory and ethical intersections and majorly also exhibited in the inefficiencies of the law enforcements. In this understanding the arbitrage occurs wherever there is any disagreement on what is considered right in relation to the global markets, it is in such cases that the unscrupulous deviant entrepreneurs fill the gap or meet the demands.

The effects of deviance in globalization can be seen by the way it affects traditional national structures by tearing down and allowing mostly illegal actors to come in and control the created void. Another solution would be on the analysts who view and treat the deviant globalization as a problem that involves the system, in this way they can create varied options for managing its effects example; through making deviant globalization less harmful and practically speaking about it. They can also encourage the deviant actors or entrepreneurs to exist as a line of business example requires understanding the local political and legal conditions.

Syriana as seen in the above explanation of deviant globalization helps outline these facts by relating its narrative to current global events while maintaining a position that is non-political. Corruption is what keeps us safe and warm. Corruption is why you and I are here in the white-hot centre of things instead of fighting each other for scraps of meat out there in the streets. Corruption is why we win.” Holiday, realizing the realities of the system, eventually lets the merger carry on” (Syriana, 2005). This shows that his view and later decision on the corrupt activities is a necessity for Americans. It is also a necessity to the ultimate justice in that for the people who control the law to them it is negotiable and flexible and can be changed as they see fit even if it means hurting others and to him powerful world nations control international influences (Syriana, 2005).

The cleric in the film also brings out the deviant aspect through his words, which seem to belittle other forms of belief systems but seeks to reason on facts like the failure of western capitalism and try to state that the Koran based theocracy teachings would lead to attaining greater justice in the world. His ideologies and those of his fundamentalist groups as manifested through characters like Wasim, who through the hidden activities of the deviance actors like in the acquisition of the company are made to suffer from the effects like being laid off from work. Through recognizing this complex global and local link, the structure ensemble in the film helps reveal the carefully intermittent decisions made by prominent figures that directly affect politics globally which also indirectly affect the identities and lives of individuals as in the case of Wasim, all show the hidden concepts of deviant globalization.
