What are some of the skills of astronomers?

Purpose:

a) to determine unknown elements from their spectra

b) to successfully classify galaxies by shape

Procedure:

Part a

Determine the two unknown elements by carefully observing the emission spectra below. Use the given spectra in Tools of the Astronomer, record your answers.

Part b

Classify each HYPERLINK “http://www.bclearningnetwork.com/LOR/media/ES11/Unit1/galaxy_images/pages/galaxy%2001_jpg.htm” o “Resource” t “_blank” image here (there are 10 images) according to the Hubble Galactic Classification System in Lesson 1.5 Other Celestial Objects and the Origins of the Universe.
