Time is a significant feature in a learner’s routine because their extracurricular and curricular activities are time dependent. Time is limited and cannot be regained once lost. Scholarly activities tend to be tedious and for them to successfully allocate time for all important tasks, learners need proper time management skills. The university environment tends to be micro-community in nature. Students are overwhelmed with various activities that range from research work, class work, socio-cultural and political activities. Every student encounters various forms of distractions ranging from relationship issues, family issues and most recently distortions from technological and digital devices (Lee, Ahn, Nguyen, Choi, & Kim, 198). Technology has made it possible for students to afford sophisticated smart phones that come with social media application such as Instragram that thrill users. This research paper will probe the manifestation of social media addiction and the effect it has on students’ time management. Instargram has overtime become a household name with majority of its users being young adults. The excessive use of Instargram poses a threat to psycho-social adjustment among learners. The recommendations from the research would be useful in making social media platforms more integrated enhancing student engagement.

Methodology

To go about researching the research question, an ex-post facto will be employed in the study. This study design is viable as it gives room to conduct a retroactive study of variables. The instruments used in the study are the Time Management Scale and Social media addiction questionnaire. The later is an instrument that consists of 18 items which measure Instagram management of population group. As regards data sources, the study will use various journal articles published by the Global Journal of Social Studies, Journal of Adolescence and Journal of Educational Psychology. I will used these specific sources because accessing them is free. The sources apply to the research question as they are peer-reviewed studies. This means that they have been reviewed by various parties making them credible sources for this study. One of the limitations of this research is that the researcher has no way of ensuring honesty among participants in filling the social media addiction questionnaire (SMAQ). If the students provide biased opinions, it might take a toll on the final and outcome of this study.
