This synthesis will focus on an article discussed by Winston Churchill entitled, “Be men of valor” and John F. Kennedy’s article entitled, “Ich bin ein Berliner.” They are both focused on Germany. Winston Churchill’s article focuses on the war between German and France and encourages the soldiers of United States which is France’s ally to stand strong and fight the Germans. On the other hand John F. Kennedy’s article is intended to foster peace between America and Germany. He calls upon the people of the two countries to unite while calling upon German citizens to live freely in Germany with justice and peace.

Discussion

Churchill describes the Germans as very cruel and strong army that has attacked the defenseless France. He describes the Germans as very strong enemy that should be fought by the American army. John Kennedy on his part is calling for unity between the United States and Germany.

Churchill says that even after the war is over and stability is achieved in the west, He expects the Germans to do the heinous acts they did to Holland. He calls upon the army to resist this aggression from the Germans while Kennedy calls upon the Germans living in Berlin to unite with the rest of the Germans so as not separate families and more so that they will live in peace.

The two articles focus on the history of Germany though in different light. Winston Churchill focuses on the evil that the Germans have done in the past. He focuses on how they raided Holland and enslave the Dutch people. He therefore warns the army to be wary of the resources that the Germans have amassed and tells them that these resources could be used against France and its allies just like it happened in Holland. The history John F. Kennedy tells of Germany is how The United States is glad to share in the German history of the events that have occurred and shaped Germany for the last 18 years. He praises the Germany city of Berlin for its ability to stand strong as well remaining determined for the last 18 years. John F. Kennedy asserts that for the last 18 years the Germans have been peaceful and free. This is in contrast to the views held by Winston Churchill about how Germany and its allies have fought one war after the other and have destabilized the peace in the western front. The explanation to be given about the contrast in these two articles is that they differ because they were written between different times. Winston Churchill’s article was written during the time of war and was intended to call upon the United States and its allies to stand firm and fight the Germany force. On the other hand John F. Kennedy’s article was written during the time of fostering peace between the United States and Germany. In a bid to promote peaceful coexistence, there is no way he could have focused on the wrong things that the Germans have done in the past. He argues that the reason that the Germans fought Berlin war is to secure freedom. He supports this quest for freedom and in fact encourages them to live peacefully.

Conclusion

The two articles focus on the relationship between Germany and the United States. A reading of the two articles depicts them as being totally contradictory. Winston’s work focuses on the war between the two countries and depicts the two countries as enemies. On the other hand, Kennedy’s article depicts the two countries as allies. To have a closer understanding of the situation at hand it is good to combine the two articles. This will help in showing that after the war ended the two countries were united.
