Slavery in America

Slavery is a controversial issue in American history, and this can be witnessed through the experiences of the Southerners and the Northerners. Conflict of interest is the main reason as to why America never came up with a solution to the issue concerning slavery in that the southerners were in support of slavery while on the other hand, the Northerners advocated for emancipation. The Southerners were of the idea that slavery should be passed through the generations due to various reasons. For one, the slave trade provided cheap labor to the southerners. The southern part of America specialized in agriculture especially cotton farming, and this made it impossible for them to release the slaves easily. Providing freedom to the slaves was not an easy thing; the struggles between the northern and southern parts of America provides this evidence with the southern part requiring more services from the slaves than the north. The northern part was of the perception that all people were equal and thus slavery was against the law of equality.

With the two sides being against each other, it was difficult for them to have a common solution to the slavery problem. The southerners were therefore difficult to do away with slavery as it provided a cheap source of labor that was economically viable and thus, the concept of freedom was not among the to-do list. It would be offensive for them to release the slaves as it would cost them a big deal as they will be forced to hire expensive labor from the willing laborers. On the other hand, the northerners advocated for freedom and equality, claiming that every person had the right according to the constitution of America. The American constitution guarantees every citizen the freedom of expression and free will, a concept that the southerners could not easily give in and thus they had to fight hard to make the slaves free. The president of America by then was of the idea of emancipation, and therefore the south had to side with his policies as a symbol of loyalty and patriotism to their nation.
