Stress Management, In The Case “The Case Of Missing Time”

In the case “The Case of Missing Time”, there are various principles of time as well as stress management violated by Chet Craig. The three of these principles includes; Chet Craig had so many tasks that he had planned for, and he wanted all those tasks to be performed in a short period of time. Chet Craig wished that, his new project would be performed by the limited time possible, and this made him to be so much worried on the project he was doing. The other principle of time management violated by Chet Craig in the case was the “Priority”. Despite the fact that prioritization seemed to be a significant principle in the case, it did not accrued in the case of time management to Chet Craig. The last principle of time management violated by Chet Craig in the case was delegation that did not also existed.

From the facts presented in the case “The Case of Missing Time”, I strongly believe that there are still other various underlying organizational problems that contributed to Chet’s level of stress in the case. Chet had a problem of finding time for completing his new projects. In spite of him setting his goals and objectives, he could not achieve all of them. He argued that, it would not be easier for him to achieve those goals even in future unless he finds a solution to all the problems he had. Different researches carried out showed that, most organizations become successful only if they are able to achieve their set goals and objectives. Chet on the other hand can only be successful if he works together with his employees. Teamwork is also significant in any organization; however Chet preferred doing a lot of work that could even been done by any other employees; this seemed to be the main problem that contributed to Chet’s level of stress making him to fail achieving his goals.

One of the Chet’s personal characteristics that I believed may have inhibited his effectiveness hence contributing to his level of stress is; Chet was not able to distinguish between what major factors were significant as well as those which seemed to be urgent. Chet on the other hand did not have enough time for listening to other shareholders and believed that by having a discussion with between him and his employees will just be a waste of time and an interruption.

If by chance I get hired as a consultant and a manager to Chet, I would have advised him to delegate since he had various things to do than his time and more so I would add to advice him to consider the three principles of time management such as priority, delegation and to do one thing at a time. I would also advice him to put in consideration the essential tasks but never to do them alone since there were employees who could help him to do the many tasks he had so as to achieve his goals and objectives. Conversely, I would advice Chet to choose only the right employees whom he knows well and could help him do the tasks as well as taking his time to clarify what his delegation and priorities were. I therefore believe that, these advices will act as strategies or concepts that would help him in increasing his effectives as well as lowering his stresses as the manager.
