Angie and Joe Hartson, the owners of Hartson printing, had a difficult time finding a General Manager for their business. They posted their first advertisement that attracted many candidates. However, all the candidates applying for the GM positioned were unsuitable for the role. The main reason for this is that the first advert failed to detail the broad qualifications, roles, and experience required for the position. Reading through the advert, respondents probably did not get a clear picture of what the position entailed, thus creating a few problems for the owners of Hartson Printing.

The first problem from the initial advert is that all of the candidates who sent their applications were not suited for the role. The owners did not find a single candidate that they wanted to interview for the job. As a result, Angie and Joe had to go back to the drawing board when it came to filling the position of General Manager. An HR Consultant came up with a new and more detailed advert that outlined the requirements for the applicants more explicitly. After seeing the new advert, the Hartsons were quite pleased and decided to post it. They realized that for such a position as General Manager, they required professional help in searching for suitable candidates for the job. Even a seemingly minor task such as putting together an advert has significant implications on the process of hiring new employees. From the second advert, the Hartsons will likely find many candidates suited to the advertised position.
