(3/16) until 10 p.m. on Thurs. (3/17). You will only be able to take the exam once, so be sure you are ready to finish the exam when you begin. The Blackboard Helpdesk recommends using either the Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome browser rather than the Internet Explorer browser. Please remember that you are to take the exam by yourself without consulting with or receiving assistance from others.You will have 1 hour to complete it. For each minute beyond 1 hour that is taken, one point will be deducted (except for the first 5 minutes over, for which the deduction will only be .5 point/minute). Blackboard will not automatically kick you out of the exam, so please watch your time. If you get to the end of 1 hour, a pop-up window should appear that says, ‘The time has expired. Press ok to save and submit. Click cancel to continue the test.’ It is a little counter-intuitive, but if you want to continue with the exam going over 1 hour, then you need to click ‘Cancel’ and not ‘OK’. Clicking ‘OK’ will immediately submit the exam and you won’t be able to continue.Since it is a timed exam, please see all the tips below on how to best complete it. When you begin the exam, it tells you that you will have a timer at the bottom of your screen. However, the IT people tell me that certain browsers do not support this function, so you may want to set a timer or look at the clock when you begin.The exam will consist primarily of multiple-choice and true/false questions.You will have 50 total multiple-choice and true/false questions, each worth 2.5 points (125 points). In addition, you will have 2 short-answer (i.e. 3 or 5 sentence or bullet point answers) questions, worth a total of 25 points.Questions will be selected from a pool of questions and be presented one at a time in random order. Blackboard technicians have advised me to set-up the exam so that questions pop-up one at a time. Apparently, experience has shown that giving an exam in which all the questions come up at once creates a greater likelihood of getting locked out of the exam when saving it.When you move from one question to the next question, please note that you do not need to use the ‘save’ button as Bb will automatically save your answer. Instead, you can simply click on the arrow at the bottom of the screen and a popup box will ask you to ‘confirm question submission’. When you click ‘ok’ your answer will be saved and you will move to the next question. The only exception is that you should save the last question you answer (e.g., #52), since you may not be moving to another question. To submit the exam, you need to go to question #52 and click the ‘submit’ button at the bottom of the screen.You can click on the “Question Completion Status” arrow (located directly under the Instructions box on your exam screen) tocause a drop-down box to come down with a link to each question. This allows you to move directly to any question in the exam. This can be useful if you would want to wait to do the short-answer questions until you have completed the other questions or if you have extra time at the end of the exam to go back and spend more time on questions that you weren’t sure about. Please make sure to move around the exam using this drop-down box and NEVER USE THE BACK BUTTON on the internet explorer to do this, as this could cause you to be locked out of the exam.You will receive your score on the exam after I finish grading the short-answer questions.
