Assignment 1: Discussion Assignment

The discussion assignment provides a forum to discuss the relevant topics for this week based on the course competencies covered. For this assignment make sure to answer all questions for Part 1 and 2 by Saturday, September 20, 2014. Provide a detailed response to the topic questions in the discussion area. For this assignment post your responses directly in the Discussion Area. Do not use attached documents.

To support your work make sure to utilize your course and text readings. When asked also utilize outside sources as well. As in all assignments make sure to cite your sources in your work and provide a reference for that citation utilizing APA format. 

Start reviewing and responding to the postings of your classmates as early in the week as possible. Respond to at least two of your classmates. Participate in the discussion by asking a question, providing a statement of clarification, providing a point of view with a rationale, challenging an aspect of the discussion, or indicating a relationship between one or more lines of reasoning in the discussion. Complete your participation for this assignment by Wednesday, September 24, 2014.

Part 1:

Baumrind (1966) described a set of parenting styles. Briefly describe these parenting styles. On the basis of the different parenting styles, explain which one would be most effective in promoting success in later life.

Parents purchase a number of items (until preschool) to help their children get a head start in education. Locate a few unique educational products on the market and probe their claims about helping children grow cognitively. Explain how the products may fit into Piaget’s stages of child development.

Justify your answers with appropriate reasoning and research from your text and course readings. Comment on the postings of at least two peers, and provide an analysis of each peer’s postings while also suggesting specific additions or clarifications for improving the discussion question response.

Part 2:

For his dissertation, Kohlberg (1958) conducted a study examining the moral development of children and adolescents. Briefly describe the levels and stages of moral development. Explain the major criticisms of Kohlberg’s moral stages, especially the work of Gilligan.

Gender stereotypes are prevalent throughout childhood, from toy cars to Barbie dolls. One influence on gender stereotypes is peer interaction. Explain the development of peer relationships and explain how peer interactions may influence gender stereotypes.

 Assignment 2: Article Analysis In this assignment, you will critically evaluate articles in the field of adult development. Each week, you will read two articles from the Annual Editions: Human Development textbook (see the weekly readings for the chosen articles). For each article, do the following:Write a summary.Describe the main points of the article and how it relates to the week’s course and text readings.Evaluate the article on the basis of your own thoughts and perspectives on the topic covered.

Write your responses in a Word document, and name it PSY2022_W2_A2_lastname_firstname.doc. By Tuesday, September 23, 2014, submit your work to the W2: Assignment 2 Dropbox.
