ABC Model of Crisis Intervention

Read all of  Chapter 4   The ABC Model of Crisis Intervention; within Kanel, K. (2012).  A guide to crisis intervention. Belmont, CA: Cengage.  (It is more than 30 pages so may not open up well in devices.)

Here are the instructions, the template, and the crisis cases to process using the ABC method. The above chapter on the ABC method  gives your far more than I’m expecting in this case paper. Keep it straightforward and use bullet points with the steps of what you will do, not discourse nor verbatim. (e.g. If you want to build trust and rapport, say just that – don’t give me “Client, how are you feeling now?”, or “Ask  client if she is …..etc.”). This assignment will help you greatly with crisis case conceptualizations.

order of subheadings (Physical, Emotional. Cognitive/Mental, Social, Spiritual) with bullets under each of these subheadings

3a. COUNSELOR: COMMITMENT TO ACTION

•                List in bulleted points what you will do as a counselor, addressing each of the problem areas you identified above under those subheadings. Stay in the same triage order you listed above. (Watch that you don’t become the enabler)

•                List in bulleted points what the client will do addressing each of the problem areas you identified above under those subheadings. Stay in the same triage order you listed above. (What should client do to help self and be empowered).

Remember that you can address only client issues, not those of the “invisible people” from the client story who are not your clients, nor can you include them in interventions without their permission.
