Heidi Hartmann tackles the historical roots of this problem in his book “Capitalism, Patriarchy, and Job Segregation by Sex”. I find this reading source very useful in terms of the investigation into the origin of the above-mentioned problems, and the best way to do it is to perform the historical study.
