PAD 631: Final Project: Case Study AnalysisOverviewCase study analysis is an integral part of a course in strategic management for many reasons: (a) provides opportunity for students to work with real-world problems firsthand, (b) exemplify the theory and content of strategic management, and (c) provides a venue for sharing ideas based on personal knowledge and experience. The final project for this course is a case study analysis. The purpose of the case study is to allow students to apply the concepts of strategic management while analyzing the mission, goals, strategic implementation, and performance measurement systems of a specific organization. Based on the knowledge obtained in this course and previous course work, students examine different contexts for strategic management in public administration.The project is divided in to 3 milestones, which will be submitted at various points throughout the course to scaffold learning and ensure quality final submissions. These milestones will be submitted in Modules 4, 7, and 10.ObjectivesTo successfully complete this project, you will be expected to reflect overall on what you have learned in this course, which covers several of the following course objectives:Understand the manager’s role as leader, strategist, planner, designer of structure, and creative problem-solverUnderstand the role of personal and community values in leading and managing organizationsDiscuss the ability to diagnose critical short term and long term issues confronting organizations and make recommendations for strategic solutionsDescribe the sense of strategic implications of organizational structure and processesIdentify strategies to promote implementation of specific objectivesUnderstand the various management tools and their applications to public service organizationsDescribe the concepts of time, unpredictability, chance, failure, limits of power, and other sobering forces that influence effective management performanceMain ElementsSelect an organization, which will serve as a case for this project, either in the field of nonprofit management or government administration (at local, state or federal level), and research the background to investigate the organization’s mission, goals and objectives, strategic planning and implementation, and performance measurement systems in place. After the case analysis, prepare a case study report including the following elements:Identify the current mission statement, short term, and long term goals.
