Protection of Human Subjects

As an overview for this forum, start by reading the content page titled : Unethical Research at Home, four specific atrocities are introduced briefly.

Please search the Internet to find an electronic report on ONE of these research atrocities/human experimentation examples listed below.

For this forum:

• Provide a working link and/or URL to your electronic report OR attach a copy of your report to the Discussion forum.
• Provide the title of the Experiment or Research
• Provide the date(s) of when it took place
• In a 250-300 word post please share with all of us: Give an overview of the content of your report – in your own words (Do not cut and paste – you will not receive points if you do).
• Describe your reaction to what you read.
• Name and describe ( using the section number or titles) 1 specific standard that is now in place through the IRB: Title 45 Protection of Human Subjects that may help protect subjects from the uneithical action that you discovered in your readings. Select one from the Guidebook OR the Health and Human Services link: Title 45 Protection of Human Subjects. For example, in the HHS link I might NAME: 46.116 General Regulations for Informed consent and then DESCRIBE, in my own words the specifics of this section.
• RESPOND to 1 of your colleagues’ postings. What impacted YOU about their posting? How how might you use this information, personally and/or professionally?

This course is about recognizing and using evidence. So, in order to earn full points, you will need to support each of your postings and assignments in this course with evidence from your readings, textbook and/or course content. Cite your sources using in-text and reference page citations, including page or paragraph numbers.

• Complete peer replies by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, EST.
• Remember that responses to instructor comments do not count toward the minimum post requirements.

Applying My Knowledge to Professional Practice

This posting forum provides you with an opportunity to pull together everything that you have learned in the course and apply it to your professional setting.

1. Locate an Experimental study. You can refresh your memory of an experimental study in Module One content or in Topic 2 of the textbook. You might want to start with the HSA Lib Guide on the library site.

2. Save your full text experimental study in a .pdf format to your computer.

3. Attach ( Do NOT copy and paste) a .pdf full version of your experimental article to the forum so that all of us can benefit from what you accessed. If you need assistance with this, contact a librarian. You must attach a pdf. for credit.

4. In 150 to 200 words:

• explain why you chose this study
• briefly describe the experiment that is taking place and name the Independent Variable(s) and the Dependent Variable(s). Use an intext citation in this section of your report.
• what did you learn that you will be able to use in your professional or personal life?
• include an APA reference citation for your article (review the HSA Style Guide for help with this).

A response to a colleague is always welcomed but NOT required in this forum.
