Should cigarette smoking be banned

Introduction:

Like most people, you already know that smoking is bad for your health. Tobacco products also contain many poisonous and harmful substances that cause disease and premature death. Smoking cause approximately 443,000 premature deaths, account for up to 30% of cancer deaths, and is the single most preventable cause of disease and death in the United States. Although it can be very difficult habit to break, smoking is ultimately a choice; it is your responsibility to choose whether or not you will continue to smoke. Today, issue of smoking in public places is raised in diverse places and abundant moment of social life. Nowadays, the smoking has become a fashion statement for the young generation. Changes in public attitudes both to the health and comfort aspects of exposure to tobacco smoke mean that it is now common practice for smoking to be banned in workplaces such as offices and in other enclosed public places such as cinemas, buses and trains.

Over the last few years, you may have ‘’ no smoking’’ signs have cropped up on park and beaches. As I thought about it, it became very clear that what was involved wasn’t that we were trying to protect non-smokers from side stream smoke on parks and beaches. We weren’t really concerned about bird and fish. There wasn’t really evidence that we were going to protect kids by disallowing smoking in parks and beaches. What was involved was that we really wanted to make it less and less possible for people to smoke, because it’s bad for them and we’re trying to protect smokers from themselves from a behavior that’s going to increase the risk of disease and death. Accorder to (Tufs Daily), some nonsmokers feel that they are being forced to inhale cigarette smoke on a daily basis and that smoking on campus has gotten out of hand. Banning smoking on campus would force employee and students who smoke to leave campus several time each day in order to do something that allows them to comfortably live their lives and avoid the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. Also, in banning smoking the government would not be violating the right of no- smokers, as the advertisement suggests: I s seems many more people would oppose a banned on alcohol than a banning on smoking. Also the government is not trying to banning smoking in private places.

Although the hazard of tobacco smoke exposure are well established and clean indoor air laws are widespread private home have long been considered spaces beyond the legitimate reach of regulation. Over the last few years, many private landlords have made the housing units they own smoke-free. A small number of local government have gone further banning smoking in multi-family residential building. Tobacco smoke can move along air ducts through all and floor cracks, through elevator shafts, and along plumbing and electrical routes to affect unit on other floors far removed from the smoking are. When private employee started mandating smoke- free workplaces in the 1980 and 1990 it meant that workers could no longer smoke at their desks, on factory floors, in teachers’ lounge, or anywhere else inside the workplace.

While some companies have banned cigarettes breaks, other have adopted an even harsher policy toward smokers: They refuse to hire them. The research also found that teens who associated with deviant peers- those who were in trouble at school, or who engaged in delinquent behavior or used alcohol or marijuana were more likely to smoke, according to (Martie Skinner), 165,000 children younger than 5 years die every years from lower respiratory infections caused by ex- posure to second- hand smoke. Also policy should also take action in two other areas to protect children and adults. First, although the benefits of smoke-free laws clearly extend to home, protection of children and women from second- hand smoke in many regions needs to include complementary educational strategies to reduce exposure to second hand smoke at home.

Another problem banning all smoking from movies, likely film andthe internet, magazines, and literature newspaper. If R-rating proponents succeeded in having all smoking scenes restricted to R-rated movies, would keep most children from seeing them. Smoking is responsible for millions of deaths all over the world and the figure is estimated to continue to rise. Although smoking is known to cause lung cancer, the effect of passive smoking has proved harder to quantify. According to the (British Medical Association) the risk of lung cancer by 20 to 30 per cent. The risk of heart disease by between 25 and 35 per cent and doubles the risk of a stroke.

Public health official have long argued the banned are meant to eliminate dangers from second hand, or ‘’ side stream smoke,’’ reduce the environment impact of cigarette butts and to keep young, impressionable children from picking up on bad habits. There is also concern today about passive smoking recent research has shown that non-smokers can suffer health problem if they spend long period of time among people who do smoke. In general I think the world would be a better place without cigarettes.

Conclusion:

We think that smoking should be illegal. The amount of harm it does to the smokers’ body and the people around us. In, my view of point, banned smoking has seriously negative effect like having smoking related disease and costing a lot a large amount of money. Although smokers know these health risks and financial costs the aIDiction still overshadows the safety of their health. Smoking kill over 430,000 people in the United States each year.
