c.    Your original well-structured PICO questions (1 per student) related to your information needs.
For each question, describe the type of EBP question it is (definition not required). Make your selection from the list of the following EBP question types which may occur in your work with clients: Effectiveness, Risk/prognosis, Description, Assessment, Prevention, or Other.

(2)    Assignment 3: Search Strategy for Best Evidence. Describe the following
i.    Which ONE PICO question from assignment 2 was selected
ii.    The key terms/descriptors used to conduct your search for best evidence.
iii.    The search engine or database that you used to conduct your search for the best evidence. Why did you select this particular search engine or database?
iv.    Is the search strategy you used efficient? Why or why not?
v.    If your initial search did not yield relevant articles, describe how you modified your search.
vi.    A brief overview of types of articles found and relevance to PICO question. (provide a synthesis of literature here)

A.    Summarize for the 2 best articles from your search for best evidence BRIEFLY:
a.    The research question(s)? (those that relate to your PICO question)

b.    Describe the research design of the study (e.g., Experimental Design, Quasi-experimental, Single-Case Evaluation, Program Evaluation, Cross Sectional Survey). Then, describe the research methods used in the study (e.g., Quantitative, Qualitative, or Mixed Methods).

c.    How did the author(s) analyze the data to determine treatment effectiveness?

d.    What are the key findings from the results?

e.    What conclusions does the researcher make about his/her research findings?

f.    Appraise the validity of the findings (e.g., closeness to the truth)
i.    Do you think the researcher(s) conclusions are accurate based on the results, why or why not?

ii.    Appraise the evidence in terms of its applicability (usefulness in clinical practice) and state:
the likelihood that the methods used in the study can answer your research question, select 1 of the following rankings: 0 (none), 1 (slight 10%), 2 (fair-30%), 3 (moderate-50%), 4 (good-70%), 5 (very good-90%).

B.    Based on your search for an EBP/Intervention related to your research question
a.    Briefly describe the evidence-based intervention/program you selected from the article

b.    Provide a rationale for how it relates to your PICO question

c.    Using the best evidence to inform decision-making: Describe how integrating your critical appraisal with other vital information including your clinical expertise and information regarding your client’s unique characteristics and circumstances including their values and expectations, will allow you and your client to make a decision about what to do together.

d.    Describe how you could evaluate the outcome of the evidence-based practice process to improve it in the future.

e.    How would you assess whether desired outcomes pursued were specific and relevant to the client?

f.    Lastly, how might you assess progress? (e.g., how would you and your client determine if valued goals have been attained and to what degree or if harm occurred).

i.    State here the dependent (e.g., depression) and independent variable (CBT with medication, EBP). State how you will measure the dependent variable (e.g., standardized instrument such as Beck Depression Inventory, or other document/form).

ii.    Briefly state how using a standardized instrument can inform you and your client as to whether the EBP is effective or ineffective.
