As you are researching simulation for this week’s discussion, I would like to talk a little bit about the National Council of State Boards of Nursing’s (NCSBN) research. NCSBN implemented a three phased study on simulation. Phase I consisted of surveying 1060 Associate and Baccalaureate program from all 50 states on the prevalence of simulation use. Phase II was a randomized control study, and Phase III was a longitudinal study on simulation.
NCSBN found the following with students who received up to 50% simulation training in place of clinicals: (a) no statistical difference in clinical competency, (b) no statistical difference in nursing knowledge, and (c) no statistical differences in NCLEX pass rates.
As you read my post, do you agree or disagree with replacing 50% of clinical time with simulation. Why or why not?
