The purpose of this paper is to explain the elements of a theory and how to apply it to nursing practice. The theorist chosen was Dorothea E. Orem and her self-care deficit nursing theory. This theorist was selected because her theory provides an exceptional organizational tool to guide nursing practice and evaluate care.
